Paint Chip Crafts

By Craft Trends Contributor, Lacey. Check out our Craft Trends board on Pinterest!

As a broke college student, I am a big fan of crafting on a budget. The trend of paint chip crafts is one that keeps the budget low and the results high. Though it’s not cool to clear out the whole paint sample section of your local hardware store, grabbing a few samples for crafting every once in a while is an acceptable practice. Especially when the results look this good. Check out some of my favorite crafts with this technique.

This paint chip bunting is perfect for any occasion. Though the rainbow colors are a great option, using event specific colors could also be a great option. I plan to make one for the “Football Sundays” I’m currently having to attend, because the best way to approach football is with crafts.

3D Wall Art

By Craft Trends Contributor, Lacey. Check out our Craft Trends board on Pinterest!

I’m a big fan of filling up the space around me. I tend to hang up too many things on my wall, assuming all space is a good place to add decor. The newest craft trend in wall hangings is 3D wall art which adds both decoration and dimension to an otherwise plain space. These are a few favorites I’ve found.

This is another perfect excuse to upcycle an old t-shirt. Especially for a t-shirt that you love for the design that you may have grown out of or is too big. I love the look of the two embroidery hoops next to each other adding even more dimension and design to this piece.

Geometric Design

By Craft Trends Contributor, Lacey. Check out our Craft Trends board on Pinterest!

I am a big fan of minimalist design and straight lines. I cannot say if this is a nature or nurture as recently this type of decoration is everywhere. This fact can be seen in the recent craft trend of geometric design. Whether it’s furniture, art, or accessories, a minimalist design dependent mostly on straight lines and shapes can be seen far and wide. I am a fan of this and here are some projects I found that could help me share my enthusiasm.

Back to School Season

By Craft Trends Contributor, Lacey. Check out our Craft Trends board on Pinterest!

As terrifying as it is, school time is fast approaching. Personally, I’ll be moving into my new apartment for the school year within the next week and as I prepare for my final year as an undergrad, I know it will be filled with late night stresses and early morning classes. One thing I know will brighten any morning time drowsiness is to have school supplies that are not only functional, but personalized. These crafts are the perfect way to add something extra to a school day that will make me happy to take out my pencils and hit the books for one more year.

Felt Covered Recipe Book - Think CraftsFelt Covered Recipe BookThink Crafts

This recipe book could easily be used as notebook instead. Not only will this book be a great way to create a personalized school supply, it will be lighter then the average notebook and pages won’t tear out as easily. I would happily keep my notes for classes if I could line up notebooks like this on my shelf after they were over.

DIY Ombre

By Craft Trends Contributor, Lacey. Check out our Craft Trends board on Pinterest!

I am often accused of not allowing enough color into my life. As a generally rule, I can usually be found in black, grey, or white and I’ll be the first to admit that I tend to stray away from colors when trying to decorate. One of the reasons I tend to stick to my blacks and greys is my fear of clashing colors. There’s one new trend that seems to alleviate some of this problem. The new trend of ombre colors is the perfect way to satisfy my color fearing palate and these DIYs are a great way to add some tasteful color in your life.

T-Shirt Yarn

By Craft Trends Contributor, Lacey. Check out our Craft Trends board on Pinterest!

I have too many t-shirts. My t-shirt drawer over flows with a multitude of colors and baggy fits that I never actually find time or the occasion to wear. My mom has constantly over the years asked me to toss some of these shirts out to create space for clothes that might actually see the light of day. Unfortunately for my dresser, I’m much to sentimental and practical to just toss out a t-shirt. Instead of wasting these memories and fabric I’ve been on the search for something to do and create with my old t-shirts. One craft trend that has emerged and has given my old t-shirts a new purpose and a new life is t-shirt yarn. There’s a number of options for this new medium of yarn and I’m excited by the possibilities I have found so far.

This cute bag is great for your local farmer’s market and great for re-purposing an old t-shirt. The project only takes four different materials and looks like a fun and easy project to whip up. The t-shirt yarn makes for a perfect material for this project as it will stretch to fit your items.
