Grab the kids and a few crafty materials to make this cute hedgehog ornament together. (Or just pull all of the eggs out of the carton and make one by yourself, because it’s pretty darn cute!)
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Paper Egg Cartons
- Pinecones (Larger ones, like the 3-4 inch sized ones)
- Acrylic Craft Paint
- Paintbrushes
- Markers (Optional, for drawing the face, instead of painting it on)
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
- Scissors
- Jute Twine
To begin, look at the inside of your egg carton. You’ll see the wells that the eggs sit in, and then the parts that stick up in between the eggs. One of the bumps that stick up between the eggs, and the two little wells on either side of it are what we want to cut out of the carton.
Once you have it roughly cut out, trim it down some more so you have a cute little face with two rounded ears.
Have an adult use hot glue to attach the head to the pointed end of the pinecone.
Use acrylic paint to paint the whole front, and the back of the ears. Let dry.
Paint, or use a marker to draw, a face onto you hedgehog, and add details to the ears, and quills around the face.
Cut a length of jute, fold it in half, and glue the folded end down inside the “quills” of the pinecone. Aim to glue it around the mid-section of the cone so your hedgehog will be balanced when you hang him on the tree, instead of tipping way forwards, or backwards. Tie the ends in a knot to form a loop for hanging.
Happy Christmas Crafting!
