Getting everything taken care of and done so that I can enjoy the holidays. Having the options to say yes to friends for dinner or lunch without all the thoughts in the back of my head thinking of what I still need to get done. This year just have to decorate the house and everything else is done another great year.

The holidays are still kind of hard for me – my mom’s sister died in Feb. 2020, and I was used to looking out for her, visiting and traveling with her, for the last 30 years or so. Since her death, it’s just been me, my parents, my brother and his wife, at the holiday table – and that’s just the same as random weekends all year long. Last year, Christmas Eve dinner was at my new house for the first time – I planned for about a month, spent a week gathering ingredients and preparing, and spent the day cooking to make sure everything was done at the same time – which it was! I don’t know if I’ll be doing that again this year. Plus, I’m taking vacation in January so I may be working during the holiday week that I was supposed to have off. So really, the only thing I’m looking forward to, is some uninterrupted scrapbooking time and my vacation in January (to Arizona – I live in Maine, so it will be good to be away during January).

    Christmas Eve dinner with family.
Having feast of the “Seven Fishes” tradition. Caroling throughout the neighborhood with friends and family.

Being with family and friends is always the best! That is even better than eating my share of pumpkin pie!

The traditions. I love the lights, music, sitting around the Christmas tree reading stories with my kids. I love the magic of the season. I am trying to hold on to the things I love and not get overwhelmed with the stress that comes along with it.

Wrapping and giving gifts to family and friends…I love giving gifts and seeing the surprise when the gift is opened. Christmas is just such a beautiful time of the year.

I am looking forward to Christmas Eve the most. It is the quietest and most reflective time of the season.

Spending time with my great granddaughters, ages 5,3,and 2. I don’t get to see them very often because they live over 125 miles away.
