I made a miniature house plant to decorate a tiny book store I was making, you can make your own mini potted plant using my tutorial, and decorate your miniature scene, dollhouse, or just for the fun of it! Make a whole collection of different mini house plants!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Green cardstock
- Panacea Paddle Wire 26-Gauge 1/4 lb. Green
- FloraCraft Floral Tape 1/2 in. x 60 ft. Green 3 pc.
- Aleene’s Always Ready Clear Gel Tacky Glue 4 oz.
- Multicraft Wood Flower Pot 2.5 x 3 cm 4 pc
- BCI Crafts Moss/Lichen 1 oz Dark Green
- We R Memory Keepers The Cinch Wire Cutters
- Hot Glue Gun & Glue Sticks
- Scrap of Cardboard
To begin, use your wire cutters to cut 2-inch long pieces of wire to make your stems. Use the needle nose end of your cutters to bend one end into a tiny loop.
Use your scissors to cut small heart shapes from your green cardstock. Vary the sizes, shapes of your hearts to add variation to your leaves. Cut narrow “u” shapes out of the sides of the larger leaves to make your leaves more interesting.
Add a dot of glue on the back of the leaf, and stick the loop on the end of the wire into the glue.
Cut a tiny oval from your green paper, or use one of the tiny “u” shaped scraps you made when you cut the notches into your leaf, and use it to cover the wire loop. Repeat with all leaves. Let dry.
Use your floral tape to cover the wire stem of your leaves. Pull, and stretch the tape as you wind it around the wire to help it stick.
Repeat for all leaves.
To help anchor your leaves into the pot, cut a tiny strip of cardboard, and roll it up into a coil. Place the coil down inside your little wooden pot, and anchor with hot glue.
Use hot glue to adhere the ends of your leaf stems into the pot. Cut them, as needed, to vary the height of your plant.
Use a little hot glue to stick some moss to the top of your pot, around the stems, to hide the cardboard. Bend, and curve the stems of your plant, and the leaves, to give your plant a nice shape.
Try varying the size, and shapes of your leaves to create different kinds of plants. Use acrylic paint to make different markings on the leaves, and pots.
