Need a small shelf but can’t seem to find the right size? This tutorial will show you how to turn a thrifted spice rack into a bathroom shelf that is perfect for a small space.

MATERIALS:
- Spice rack or small shelf
- Sand paper
- Paint brushes
- Paint
- Clear coat paint
- Nails
- Hammer
TUTORIAL:
Sand your shelf to remove any loose paint and to smooth the edges.
After sanding you are now ready to upcycle! You can paint, stain or decoupage your shelf.
I had some leftover latex paint which I used.
If you’re going to paint your shelf a lighter color, painting a primer coat will make sure the underlying color, in my case darker wood, won’t peek through the final coat.
Paint your shelf and let it completely dry before painting another coat.
I used a small amount of craft paint to turn my paint mint green.
Reusing a glass jar is a great way to mix up a small batch of paint.
Paint your shelf in your preferred color. I painted two coats of mint green.
Since this shelf is going in the bathroom I sprayed clear coat paint on it to protect it from water splashes.
After your shelf is completely dry, hang it up with a hammer and nails.
Now the spice rack has been upcycled into a custom shelf.
Craft on!
