Spring Chick Jar

Create a cute spring display in a jar with this easy project!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:

To begin, use your bread knife to carefully cut a foam ball in half.  Place your half-ball onto the sheet of moss, and trace a circle around the outside, about an inch away from the edge.

Cut out the moss circle, and make several cuts around the edge that almost go to the center.  These will help the moss to lay flat against the ball when it is applied.

Peel the paper off the back of the moss circle, and carefully adhere it to the foam half-ball.

Use your hot glue to stick the moss covered dome to the inside of the lid.

Push your tree stick into the center of the dome–make sure you try placing the jar in place so you know it is going to fit, before you decorate your tree.  You may need to make your tree shorter, or more narrow.  When you are sure your tree is going to fit, wind a strip of moss around the trunk to decorate.

To make the flowers, tear off a strip of the crepe paper, and fold it back and forth, like making a paper fan, so you have a paper bundle about 1.5-inches across.

Cut a scalloped petal shape across the top, leaving the folded sides un-cut.

Unfold the paper to reveal the scalloped topped edge.

Begin bunching, and winding the strip at one end to begin forming a flower.

Glue the beginning of your flower to the tip of one of your branches, and continue bunching, and winding it around the branch until it reaches your desired size.  Trim, the extra paper strip.  Add as many flowers as you desire.

Use your hot glue to add pink pom-pom around the flowers, and on the branches.

Use hot glue to attach your chicks to the tree, and on the moss dome.

Place the jar over your tree, and screw the lid in place.

Happy Spring Crafting!
