Valentine’s Day Gnome

Create this festive fellow for Valentine’s Day–you’ll fall in love with how easy he is to create!

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:

To begin, cut a strip of felt about 1/3 of the height of your Styron cone, and wraps all the way around.  Hot glue into place.

Next, cut a triangle shaped beard from the white fur.  Make sure you cut it so the direction of the fur is pointing downward toward the beard point.  Cut the top of the beard triangle so it wraps around the sides of cone a bit, leaving only about an inch-wide gap at the back.

Squeeze a bit of the alcohol ink into your spray bottle, and mist the fur beard as desired.  The fur will clump a bit when wet, but will get fluffy again when it dries, and you fluff it with your fingers.  Let dry completely.

To create the hat, roll the felt into a tall cone shape.  Make sure the base of the hat is big enough to fit down over the top of the cone, and overlap the top 1/2-inch of that first strip of felt you adhered to the cone.  You want a little slack so the hat will be able to bunch up around the nose when it’s glued on.   Cut the cone to the correct height.

Open the cone into a triangle, and cut the bottom edge into a gentle curve.

To glue, fold the triangle so there is about 1/2-inch overlap.

Starting at the top of the hat, run a short bead of glue on the outer overlap, and fold it over on top of the opposite edge.  Hold in place until cool.  Work your way down the whole seam of the whole hat this way, working in small increments, rather than running a bead of glue along the entire seam–it’s much easier.

Glue the beard to the front of your gnome, lining up the top edge of the beard, with the top edge of your felt strip.

Glue your nose in place at the top, center of the beard.

Slide your hat onto the top of the cone, pulling it down in back to cover any bare cone.  Glue in place along the back.  Push the hat up over the top of the nose, so it bunches up, and hold in place with a dot of glue.

Cut some hearts from your glitter foam, and attach to the hat.

Part the fur at the front of the beard, and give your dapper fellow a mustache.  Get your fingers damp, and twist the ends of the mustache to help shape them.

Happy Crafting!
