Free Stuff Friday!!

Happy Friday all! We’ve got another fun giveaway for you this week. One lucky winner will receive this Yarn Valet Yarn Bowl!

You’ll love your light weight, stylish, yet unbreakable Yarn Valet Yarn Bowl. The rubberized ring keeps the bowl from slipping while the yarn flows through the scalloped yarn director. Or use the skein hole for your larger fibers and skeins. Keeps your yarn clean and contained while maintaining the beautiful ply twist while you work. Our favorite part is the portability; you can pop these into your bag and head to a favorite coffee shop or knit night. Bowl measures approximately 6 inch wide.

Every Friday we’ll post a giveaway on Think Crafts and all you have to do is comment on the blog post answering the question of the week. We’ll pick the winners and contact them via email. Deadline is midnight tonight and the winner will be announced on Monday. One entry per person please.

Question of the week:  What was the best thing that happened to you this week?

I’m a Senior Caregiver. The best thing that has happened to me this week is that I had my 100 year-old client laughing yesterday after weeks of her suffering deep depression.

The best thing that happened to me this week is that I got one day closer to cataract surgery. I can’t wait to be able to see again. You don’t realize how much you miss until everything is a blur. Can’t wait to see clearly all the faces that I love.

After 14 years of back pain,(why I learned to knit) had a procedure that made my pain in my back and legs go away.I feel like my life has a new beginning.

That after the spine surgeon told my mom that her bones were to osteoporotic to do a surgery for chronic debilitating pain last week they came up with a plan for a trial nerve stimulator which hopefully goes well on Monday.

I’m 84 and use electric cart when grocery shopping–a lady in front of me unloaded my cart, the clerk reloaded it, a lady stopped at my car and helped me load my groceries and a gentleman came along and took the cart back. Now how much better can a day get–no Hate in the air at my Wallmart shopping that day!

I’ve now got both cataracts operated on and am looking forward to much clearer vision with lovely colour saturation. Today’s operation was simple, and my knitting whilst waiting provoked a lot of conversation on crafts (and cooking) and has resulted in one of the nurses asking me if I would custom-knit something for her (paid).

A recent storm caused a hole in our roof, which caused a decent leak into our kitchen 🙁 I found out I was approved for a credit card with no interest that will nearly cover the cost of the new roof! 🙂

My mom would love this bowl!!

After reading all these comments, I decided alot of people needed a free yarn bowl a whole lot more than I did. So just wanted to say thanks for doing a kind deed.

Last night, I sat around a table with about ten crocheters and knitters laughing and talking. We meet once a month to make scarves that we give away to those in need. It’s the best to be surrounded by others who love to make things!

The best thing that happened to me this week was seeing my grandson (who has texture sensitivity issues) eating a cheeseburger for the first time!

Best thing that happened this week was I was able to afford having my brakes fixed on my truck yesterday. Since my husband past away last September, things have been very hard financially and still are but that is one less thing I have to worry about. I love crocheting. It is so much fun and helps with stress.

Working for the police department, every day has both good and bad. My favorite good this week was helping a woman who woke in the middle of the night to find her 2 year old daughter missing. Thankfully, her daughter was found unharmed and safe in only a few minutes, but during that time of uncertainty I was able to be the person she could lean on, knowing that she wasn’t alone and we were all going to do everything we could to help her and her daughter. THIS is what makes the job worth it!

You never know what light you might spark in others. Just through your kindness and your example.
I made 2 floor of nurses (total of 54) at the hospital I spent 15 days in January getting better from having my back surgery and rehab done so I could go home and take care of myself. The look on their faces when they all got home made Thank you cards and $5 gift cards to See’s candy. I believe in RAK (random acts of kindness) which I do every time I leave my house might be a sucker to the kids down the street or to the guy at the gas station but for me it is not good for me but good of what I can do to make you smile if I hand you a little gift and walk away and you never know my name.

I loved reading all these stories about how God is working in the lives of these people. Like someone else said here, I would rather one of them win the yarn bowl. Reading the stories was enough of a win for me. God bless you all.

I have cancer, its been part of my life now for 15 years and I am lucky to be able to say that. This week, I decided to cash in a small IRA I had and enjoy it while I am still well enough to do things with it. I am starting to go downhill now and I recognize that… what good will the money do me when I am no longer here to enjoy it? Seize the day!

I fell on a sidewalk while shopping with my daughters and landed on my knee and then my face. Complete strangers stopped to help me and hung around to help me get up. I had begun to think such kindness was a thing of the past but they happily proved me wrong.

Today I was hauling my groceries to my car when I passed a car that was slowly backing out of a handicapped spot–there on the pavement was a new plastic bottle of grapefruit juice. I grabbed it and handed it to the driver who was very thankful; it must have rolled under his car. It made my week.

  24. Tami Arrington

Best thing that happened to me this week… I went in for my annual check up and learned that I’ve lost 73 pounds!!! My A1c is down to normal range too! I got a hug from my doctor!

I found some of my unfinished projects that were missing since I moved. Like finding old friends.

  26. Angela Palmer

I got a new set of teeth. Although I know it is a great thing, I won’t be too sure until they aren’t so sore.

I rescued a small parakeet I found by the side of the road. After numerous attempts to find the owner with no luck, she is home now and I am enjoying every minute of it!

  32. Dianne G.

The best thing about my week is all of my children and grandchildren are in town at the same time. Let the fun begin!

  33. Patti Berzins

Made a new friend on Nextdoor Neighbor. She posted that she had moved to the area four months ago, didn’t drive, and was feeling lonely. Several people responded, and we’re all meeting next week to meet each other. I reached out separately and asked if she wanted to go to lunch on Monday. So, we’re going! Great week!!

  34. Annette

Turned a porch into a sewing room. Can’t wait to make some quilts, jelly roll rugs and winter jammies.

The best thing that happened to me this week is that I celebrated the one year anniversary of surviving emergency open chest heart surgery on August 9th. I now consider August 9th to be my RE-Birthday because within a few hours, I had lost my life & then got it back.

I was taken by ambulance to my local hospital & I had already been revived once while the e.r. team was trying to figure out what was wrong with me & they didn’t expect me to live. I came out of surgery on a respirator & having had 4 pints of blood replaced. My heart had a hole in it & was bleeding into the surrounding sac. I spent 5 days in the CCU, most of which I have no memory of whatsoever. When I saw my surgeon at my 2 week follow up he told me that my body temperature was only 94 when he got to me, but, he figured he had nothing to lose by operating on me anyway. because within a few hours, I had lost my life & then got it back.

This 2nd chance at life has changed my attitude about people & things greatly & made me realized how truly blessed I am.

The best thing that happened to me was the eye doctors are going to pursue and try and fix my blindness….
