Eleanor Burns Nile Quilt

I was excited to see CreateForLess carries the Nile quilt pattern by Eleanor Burns – shown here in cream and brown batiks.

As a new member of the  CreateForLess staff, I am eager to start blogging about my favorite products and sharing project ideas! Having spent hours pouring over the CreateForLess website for inspiration, I have many new project ideas. It is hard to know where start! What a lovely problem to have for a life long crafter and “maker” like me.

Being an avid quilter for over 25 years – and a quilt designer and teacher – logically, I started by looking at the quilt patterns and supplies. I was glad to see CreateForLess carries the Nile quilt pattern by Eleanor Burns because I just finished making the quilt in the smaller of the two sizes offered.

My version is made with a scrappy collection of cream and brown batiks from my stash. I chose fabrics that were tone-on-tone and blended together with some subtle contrast. Batiks with a high contrast design were eliminated because they stood out too much. I tried to scatter bolder fabrics evenly so the eye would not be drawn to one area. The use of a design wall (or arranging the units on the floor) facilitates achieving an appealing scrappy balance.

Even though there are only cream and brown batiks, the variations of the prints adds visual texture.

I look forward to sharing many ideas in the future. Usually, my postings include step-by-step instructions and photos of each project I blog about, but I wanted to share this work-in-progress (WIP) because the Nile quilt pattern just went on CLEARANCE.

Next, I have to quilt it. Any suggestions?
