Make yourself a no-maintenance friend with this quick craft.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- A flat, smooth rock
- Flower pot
- Acrylic craft paint: green, white
- Flat paint brush
- Small round paintbrush
- Googly eyes
- Scrap paper
- A bunch of tiny pebbles, or other filler to cover the top of your pot
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Krylon Artist Sprays Colormaster Crystal Clear Acrylic Spray Satin (optional)
To begin, paint your rock green. Let dry.
Mix some of your green with some white to make a lighter shade of green. Paint light green stripes vertically on your rock. Let dry.
Using your small round paintbrush, and white acrylic paint, paint small white “snowflake-like” shapes along each light green stripe, to represent whorls of cactus spines. Let dry. Spray the rock with clear coat acrylic, if desired. Let dry.
Wad up some scrap paper and stuff it into your flowerpot so it’s about 1/2-inch from the top. Fill it firmly with the paper, so your rock will have a stable base to sit on.
Use your hot glue to attach your rock to the paper in the middle of the flowerpot. Place small pebbles around it.
Cut a narrow strip of felt, and cut fringe into one edge. Begin rolling the strip on one end, hot gluing as you roll to hold it in place.
Fluff your flower, and hot glue to the top of your rock.
Use your hot glue to attach 2 googly eyes to your cactus, and give him a little smile with your paint. Let dry.
Now sit your new little buddy on your desk, or shelf, and enjoy not having to water him!
