Painted Pour Over Coffee Maker

Add a little more beauty and caffeine to your desk with a painted ceramic pour over coffee maker!

I’ve been re-watching Gilmore Girls on Netflix lately, which has given me a constant craving for a great cup of coffee. Since I’m super picky about my coffee, I decided to get myself a pour over coffee maker so I could satisfy my coffee needs without making a whole pot. Plus, it just tastes better.

Paint a ceramic pour over coffee maker for your desk.

In an effort to make my desk my happy place, I decided that a plain ceramic pour over wasn’t quite pretty enough, so I decided to add a little color to it. Paint your coffee maker however you want, but if you only wish you were an artist like me, here’s an easy and pretty way to paint your pour over.

What You Need:

How to Make It:

Thoroughly wash and dry your ceramic pour over. Give it a couple of swipes with some alcohol for good measure. Then, tape off your handle and the top 1/4 inch or so of the pour over (taping off the top might not be necessary, I did it to make it more food safe, but the coffee doesn’t touch the outside of the mug at all, so you might be okay).

Grab your base color of paint. (I wanted a nice deep blue, and originally grabbed the indigo, but it was a little too bright for me, so I added some deep sea to make it a little darker). Take your flat brush and paint from the bottom of the pour over to about 1 inch from the top. You should see some nice brush strokes like the ones above. Let Dry.

Make sure you have a large surface area covered with something that can take a little paint. Now, take your contrast color (metallic gold for me) and dip your toothbrush in it. Use your thumb to pull back the bristles and kind of fling the paint onto the pour over. Keep doing this around the whole thing until you reach your desired look. Let dry.

Remove the tape and place your creation into a cold oven. Turn on the oven to preheat to 350 degrees and set a timer for 30 minutes. Once the timer goes off, turn off the oven and let the ceramic cool inside with it. Once it’s cool, your pour over is top rack dishwasher safe!

Enjoy a quality cup of coffee at your desk and let the pretty pour over brighten your day!
