Mother’s Day is quickly approaching so now is the time to create those special card for the mom you love. Create a fun background for this card or any card using the painter’s tape technique. It’s easy to do and the results are awesome!
Begin by using a paper trimmer to cut a 3 ¼” x 5 ¼” piece of cardstock. You can use any color of cardstock as long as it is light enough to show ink from an ink pad. Darker cardstock can be used but you will need to choose an ink color such as white to use in the next step.
Add the ink to the tape by pressing it down onto the ink pad. Place the piece of painters tape (sticky side up) onto an acrylic stamp block. If you want more than one ink color or a wider inked area use more than one strip of tape or use a wide tape. Press the block onto the piece of cardstock to create the background. Lay the piece aside and allow the ink to dry completely.
Now create the card base and add a patterned paper layer. This card base measures 4” x 6” and the patterned paper (the one shown is from the Precious Memories Collection by Graphic 45) is 3 ½” x 5 ½”. Round all of the corners using a corner rounder. You can choose to leave the 2 corners along the fold on the card base unrounded if you like or round those, too.
Die cut an umbrella from cardstock using a die and die cut machine.
Assemble the card and attach the umbrella using a tape runner.
Embellish the umbrella with some flowers to give it a special look for mom.
Personalize the card by stamping “mom” over the painters tape inked area. You can use a stamp that says mom, mother or use a set of alphabet stamps to spell it out.
Finish the card off by attaching to more flowers around the word “mom” and add a sentiment to the inside of the card.
Mother’s Day isn’t too far away so start getting those cards ready and surprise mom with a special handmade one this year. Don’t forgot to use the painters tape technique on your other card designs, too. It’s a great way to create a quick and easy back ground that looks great!
