Create a cheerful flock of colorful baby chicks to welcome the arrival of spring! These candy-colored chickies are cute for decorating, or to add a whimsical touch to Easter baskets.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own chickie babies:
- One printed copy of Chickie Baby PDF.
- Felt for chick bodies.
- Orange felt for beaks and feet.
- Embroidery floss in colors that match the colors you chose for your chick bodies.
- Black embroidery floss.
- Sewing needle.
- Fiberfill stuffing.
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks.
Cut out the wings and body pattern pieces 1 and 2 in matching colors of felt. Cut out the feet and beak pattern pieces out of orange felt. Thread your needle with 2 strands of embroidery floss that matches the color of felt that you chose for your body. Take one of the Body 1 pieces of felt, and match up the Body 2 piece of felt (according to the printed pattern) using the letter “A”. Begin sewing the 2 pieces together at the “A” position, using a whip stitch, continue sewing the pieces together until you reach the “B” position.
When you reach the “B” position, match up the second Body 1 piece of felt at the “B” position, and whip stitch from “B” back to “A” to join the Body 1 and Body 2 pieces together.
Match up the remaining open seam along the top of the head and across the back of the chick (at “C” and “D”) together, and begin whip stitching it shut from “C” to “D”. Make a few stitches and then, using a small amount of fiberfill stuffing, stuff the chick until plump, and then whip stitch the remaining opening shut.
Using your glue gun, glue the feet to the bottom of the chick and the wings onto the sides. Next attach the beak by gluing one triangle onto the front of the face as the bottom of the beak, and then glue the second triangle just above the first one to be the top of the beak.
Use 2 strands of black embroidery floss with your needle to make french knots on both sides of the head for eyes.
Make a whole flock of colorful baby chickies to bring some springtime cheer!
