I love hanging the perfect banner for every occasion, but I don’t love going out and buying cheap banners every time. That’s why I love chalkboard paint. It’s so easy to create a unique banner that can say exactly what you feel, and it can go with any occasion you like. Just switch out the twine if you want to go fancy. Use baker’s twine for the holidays, maybe a sparkly ribbon for a fancy event or big celebration, and you’re all set. You can say exactly what you would like, and just erase for the next occasion.
What You Need:
- Chalkboard Paint
- Chipboard Pennants (I used 2 packages so that I could make the banner longer if I wanted)
- Twine, Ribbon, or other way to hang
- Paintbrush
How to Make It:
This craft is very easy. The hardest part is waiting for the paint to dry and cure. Just paint light layers of the chalkboard paint, drying for about an hour between layers. It took 3 layers on mine to create a nice, even coat.
Flip your pennants over and repeat on the other side. Make sure every inch of the pennant is covered, including sides.
Let your pennants dry and cure overnight. This will make sure that the paint is ready for the chalk.
Season each pennant by rubbing the side of a piece of chalk over the entire pennant. This will make sure that whatever you draw on the pennant will erase entirely between uses.
Wipe the excess chalk off your pennants and tie them together. I chose to tie bows so that they would be easy to remove in case I wanted a longer or shorter banner in the future. When you have enough pennants, draw on your sentiment or phrase with chalk and hang!
