OK, after creating 150 projects for the Big-Ass Book of Bling, I just didn’t know what else to name these. My brain is whirling around right now and Whirly Brooches was the only thing I could come up with. It happens.
YOU’LL NEED
- Leather or vinyl scraps in different matching colors
- Lumiere acrylic paints in pearl turquoise, green, and gold
- Small paintbrush
- E-6000 glue
- Hot glue gun
- Pin backs
- Pearls in different sizes
- 14” Leather lacing
HERE’S HOW
Cut several sets of descending sized circles in different colors of scrap vinyl starting at 3” diameter and getting smaller.
Cut to the center of each circle, overlap about ¼” and secure with a dab of E-6000 glue and a clothespin until they dry.
Paint the edges of each circle with the Lumiere paint and let dry.
Glue sets of 3 circles together with E-6000 and let dry.
Glue several flowers on a large 4” x 3” oval and let dry.
Add a pearl in the center of each flower.
Glue a pin back to the back of the brooch and let dry.
FOR THE LEAFY BROOCH
Create a set of 4 circles, the largest being 3 ½” in diameter and getting smaller from there.
Cut to the center of each circle, overlap about ¼” and secure with a dab of E-6000 glue and a clothespin until they are dry.
Paint the edges of each circle with turquoise and gold Lumiere paint.
Create leather disks by rolling up the leather lacing and securing the edge with hot glue.
Cut 5 leaves that are 2” long by 1” wide.
Add a dab of hot glue at the end of each leaf and pinch until it dries. This will give it some dimension.
Paint the edges of each leaf with green and gold.
Cut a small oval about 3” x 2” in size and with E-6000, glue on your large circular flower.
Using a tiny dab of hot glue position your leaves and then with a toothpick add E-6000 glue to secure them in place under your big flower.
Using more E-6000, glue on your leather disks and then the pearls and let dry.
Flip over and add your pin back.
