Kids’ Crafts: Sensory Table for Spring

Here in Portland Spring is in full swing – the constant rain brings us early spring flowers. This year the change in seasons seemed to happen overnight and all of a sudden everything is in bloom. Whether spring has begun in your area or if you are still snowed or rained in, here are some bright, spring themed sensory play activities to interest your little ones.

Rainbow Rice can be used in the sensory table to practice measuring and color classification, but it can also be used in many other crafts projects. You can even use it like sand art to create layers of colorful designs.

Kids’ Crafts: Dinosaurs!

My niece’s and nephew are very interested in dinosaurs these days. We’ve been reading Encyclopedias of Dinosaurs and learning so much! The little ones have so many questions – many of which can actually be answered now a days. (Paleontology is definitely one of those topics you will want to find the most recent books about because so much has changed in the past ten years or so.) If your kids are curious about dinosaurs, or if they are currently studying dinos at school or at home, the following activities are sure to keep them engaged for hours of crafting and play.

This No Sew Dinosaur Play Mat is a such great project to make with your kids. It will allow you to discuss what the environment was like during the prehistoric periods, note key features such as swamp, lava pits, caves, mountains etc, and what dinosaurs diet and lifestyles may have been like. Kids can help plan out their own play space and then build it with your help.

Kid’s Crafts: Fresh Ideas for the Sensory Table

Long Winters with little ones means it’s time brainstorm fresh ideas for the sensory table  in your classroom or at home. Sensory table activities are educational and hands on fun for young children. Here are some new ideas to try – all can be made at home! I hope these inspire your little ones to build, experiment and play in their own ways!

If your little ones are like the ones I know and love, they want to play in the snow without gloves. If that’s the case, or if the weather is still in the negative digits where you are, this indoor Sparkle Snow can be a nice compromise.
