Beautiful Christmas scenes from the “Days of Yore” make such pretty card fronts. Tim Holtz has a gorgeous stamp set called Scenic Holiday that is just perfect for this kind of project. I’ll show you both a modern and vintage way I used the set. First, the vintage:
In past posts, I have talked about stretching your stamps or thinking “outside the box” when it comes to theme. For today’s post, I will show you how to turn a simple floral stamp into a Christmas stamp. This is great when you don’t have or want to get a huge collection of holiday stamps but still want to create some festive greetings. It is helpful to have one or two holiday sentiments though. I will be using Avery Elle’s Modern Floral stamp and die set as my focal point along with a floral themed embossing folder whose flowers have a bit of a poinsettia look. Even better, would be to use a Christmas-themed embossing folder if you have it. The terrarium around the floral stamp reminds me of a Christmas ornament which is a plus.
If you’ve ever had a difficult time coloring with colored pencils and getting a smooth finish, you may want to try watercolor pencils. In today’s post, I’ll be using the Art Advantage watercolor pencil set to color a pretty wreath of sunflowers and fall foliage.
Lately, I’ve been trying a lot of techniques with my Spectrum Noir Aqua markers. These markers are a great way to get a watercolor look if you’re not that comfortable with traditional water coloring with a brush and paint. One of the really fun techniques I tried was stamping with the markers using a layered stamp set. I really like Avery Elle’s Layered Rose set and wanted to see what these markers could do.
I recently discovered one of those fun paper crafting tools that I didn’t know I needed. It’s called the Totally Tiffany Heat Embossing Station, and it’s a huge help when you are embossing large backgrounds like on my project today.
Sending a card for no reason is one of the best ways to reach out to friends and family. This “groovy” greeting was easy to make using the dies from the Flowers & Fence stamp and die set from Sizzix/Stephanie Barnard.
