Bee Hotel

By General Crafts Contributor Michelle

Gentle, non-stinging Mason bees are a bit smaller than a honeybee, and are great pollinators for your garden.  Each one visits as many as 1000 blooms per day — 20 times as many as a honeybee! Hang your bee hotel where it will get morning sun and attract mason bees.  The female bees will lay  their eggs in the tubes.  This is a great project to get the whole family involved in creating, and a fun project for kids to observe in the summer months.

Summer Mini Book

Summer is here and it’s time to make some memories!  What better way to keep track of all your pictures than in a mini book?  I was inspired by this gorgeous scrapbook kit from Carta Bella called Summer Splash and decided to create a quick and easy book that would be perfect for documenting summer adventures with pictures and journaling.  I kept it easy by using a spiral bound, blank keepsake book from Paper Accents along with the kit and other embellishments from the Summer Splash collection.  The colors are so bright and fun, I couldn’t wait to put this book together!

Festive Fourth of July Card

By Card Making and Paper Crafts Contributor Heidi. Follow Heidi on Instagram @bluescallopcreations.

This time of year brings lots of cookouts and fun activities at friends’ and families’ homes—especially for the 4th of July.   It’s always nice to bring a dish or small gift for the host, so why not include a fun little note as well?  I found a great way to use the Sizzix Scribbles & Splat die cut set just for this purpose.

I thought a shaker card would be fun, but I didn’t have any type of firecracker die to use as an opening.  Cut to me flipping through my dies and I came across this die set.  Great for backgrounds, but why not try the “splat” for my fireworks I thought?

I took a panel of white cardstock and die cut 2 of the “splats” onto it at a diagonal.

To create my shaker, I adhered some clear cardstock over the back of the panel and added foam tape around the edges making sure the corners touched.

Before covering my blue notecard with the shaker window, I adhered some white cardstock to the front and poured some multicolored seed beads onto it.  Be sure to add a lot, because you want to be able to see them (they roll around a lot).  I chose the beads because they make a fun sound that kind of mimics the sound of fireworks.

To finish off the card, I added sentiments and stars using some 4thof July themed stickers from Sticko.

Here’s another version where I covered the small holes with silver Stickles glitter glue.  You could try other colors too to see what works.

Thanks for joining me today.  I hope your summer is getting off to a great start!
