Every year, my list of Christmas cards to make needs to include a few retro-themed designs.  I’ve always been a fan of the aluminum trees and tinsel and festive starbursts of the 1950s.  I can always count on Tim Holtz to come out with something that fits the bill.  Today’s project was made with the versatile Ornamental Birds die set from Sizzix/Tim Holtz.

Alternatives to Christmas Stamps

In past posts, I have talked about stretching your stamps or thinking “outside the box” when it comes to theme.  For today’s post, I will show you how to turn a simple floral stamp into a Christmas stamp.  This is great when you don’t have or want to get a huge collection of holiday stamps but still want to create some festive greetings.  It is helpful to have one or two holiday sentiments though.  I will be using Avery Elle’s Modern Floral stamp and die set as my focal point along with a floral themed embossing folder whose flowers have a bit of a poinsettia look.  Even better, would be to use a Christmas-themed embossing folder if you have it.  The terrarium around the floral stamp reminds me of a Christmas ornament which is a plus.

Glittery Backgrounds for Christmas Card Prep

If you like to create hand made cards for the holidays, an easy tip to prepare is to make a variety of backgrounds on blank notecards.  You can then add a quick sentiment and you have a card ready to hand out or mail.
