Paper Easter Eggs

Here’s a sweet alternative to the plastic eggs that are always found in Easter baskets and hidden around the yard. Those are fun, but I’m always looking for new traditions and ideas to spice things up, and these do just that!
I made a few different printables to make this project as easy as print-cut-sew, or you can personalize and decorate them as much as you like. The choice is yours, friends!
What you need:
- egg templates (links at bottom of the post)
- scissors
- sewing machine or needle and thread
- small goodies or toys to fill the eggs
What to do:
1. Print off the eggs of your choice (links at bottom of the post). If you decide to personalize the plain eggs, make sure they are decorated and dry before you sew. I printed mine on a textured craft paper that is a bit heavier than computer paper. I think cardstock would be fine, but you want to make sure it’s not so thick that you can’t tear the eggs open.
2. Cut out the eggs inside the black line.
3. Put two eggs together, right sides out, and start sewing. Make sure to leave a few inches open to fill the eggs, and then stitch them shut completely when filled. I used my sewing machine, but you could hand-stitch these just as easily with great results.
Simple, right? When you are ready to open them up just tear with your hands. I had no trouble ripping the paper and thread (I just used basic thread).
I think these are so fun, you can have your kids color or paint a few of the large eggs and pop them in the mail to grandparents, you could stuff a few with gift cards for older kids, or fill them with treats to sit in an Easter basket. They would also be a fun little take-home favor for Easter guests, too!
