I’m always on the lookout for new and different types of dies. This floral die from Sizzix called Peony Pop-Up is quite unique.
You’ll see it is a peony, but for this project, I’m using it as a poinsettia for the holiday season. Right there, you can see it’s multi-use, but actually, what makes this die unique is the pop-up feature each part of the flower creates using a shadow cut out and the main die which does not cut all the way through.
To create my card, I first cut the die and its corresponding shadow die together on some red card stock.
You can see all the pretty pop up parts that will create texture when you adhere it to the card base.
After cutting the flower and some leaves, I added some Distress Ink to the centers to give some depth to the colors. Candied Apple and Barn Door worked well for the red and green leaves and petals.
After adhering a silver glitter card stock panel to the front of a white note card, I adhered the leaves and flower using some liquid glue along the shadow portion of the die cut. I also added the flower center using some yellow card stock. When you pop the leaves and petals up, you can see the glitter underneath which gives an interesting effect.
I added a sentiment from Avery Elle’s Simply Said Bright to the inside of the card for a New Year greeting, but of course this flower and leaves would work year-round. Experimenting with different colors or textures of card stock give it lots of possibilities.
Thanks so much for joining me today!
