Make a hair bow that’s both sweet to wear, and sweet for the planet with this cute recycling craft.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Pouch style candy wrappers (the small bags by the checkstands at the store)
- Darice Alligator Hair Clips 1 1/4 in. Nickel 12 pc.
- Buttons and Embellishments for center
- Hot Glue Gun and Glue Sticks
To begin, carefully open one end of your candy package by gently pulling apart the layers, or cutting a small slit in the back to remove the candy. Eat the entire package of candy as you craft–this is a critical step for creating this project.
Glue the open end of the package together with your hot glue.
Cut a a strip of felt that is about 1/2-inch wide by a couple of inches long.
Gently fold your wrapper accordian style, but don’t crease the folds, just fold it so you can easily pinch the middle.
Wrap your felt strip around the middle area you pinched, and hot glue to secure. Trim the excess felt. Careful pull the ends of your bow open to fluff.
Glue buttons, or other embellishments to the center felt piece.
Cut a 1/4-inch wide strip from your felt that’s about 3 inches long.
Hold your clip so the flat edge is facing down. Apply a bead of glue along half of your felt strip. Pinch the clip open, and insert the felt, glue side down, onto the top of the flat edge of the clip. Release the clip so it closes.
Apply a bead of glue along the bottom edge of the clip, and fold the strip of felt that’s hanging out of the clip onto the glue to cover the bottom of the clip. Trim excess felt.
Glue the felt covered side of the clip onto the back of your bow.
Now clip on you new, cute bow and wear it out to the store to buy more candy, so you can make more cute bows!
