Thumbprint Heart Necklace

My Mother-in-Law’s birthday is this weekend and she usually tells us that she doesn’t want any gifts, but try telling that to my 4 year old. So last weekend we set out to make Oma something special. My little had so much fun helping me make this that we had to make a necklace for her too!

Here’s what you need to make your own:

Grab your clay and start working it to make it softer. Polymer clay is great because it doesn’t air out, but it can get pretty tough.  Once the clay is soft roll it out. You want it pretty even, and about 1/8 of an inch thick.

Then take your cookie cutter and cut out the heart shape.

Then have your little one(s) press their thumb into the clay.

Then use a toothpick to poke a hole through the top of the pendant.

Now it is time to bake.  Bake at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.

After it is cool, paint the pendant. We did several coats waiting a few hours between coats.

Once paint is dry all you have to do is add a jump ring and slide it on a necklace chain. The jump rings I had on hand were a little too small, so I ended up using some wire to make my own.

Enjoy.
