Doesn’t this cake look good enough to eat?! My project today uses a festive birthday cake die cut from DoCrafts and Wink of Stella shimmer.
The die I used is called Xcut Floral Cake. It’s actually 2 pieces—an outline and an inner piece that cuts the detail. I fit the 2 dies together on my magnetic plate for my Gemini Jr. and ran the pair through the machine using white card stock. Don’t forget to place your dies on the magnetic plate with the blades facing up. I may or may not have made that mistake the first time through, LOL!
There are a lot of little pieces to pop out of the die cut, so I used my Sizzix Die Brush and Foam pad to help get them out. This is such a handy tool and saves so much time. You just roll the brush over the top of the die cut on the foam pad and the pieces just pop out! I set aside all the pieces that were attached to a candle along with a few of the flowers. You’ll see what I do with those in a minute.
To back my cake, I die cut a pink piece using just the outline part of the cake die. I trimmed off the candles and glued the pink piece to the back of the white piece with some Tombow Aqua glue.
The cute little cake plate pops out separately, so I stacked a few in white cardstock, then added an embossed piece of jade colored cardstock to look like one of those vintage Jadeite cake plates.
I colored the saved die cut pieces with purple alcohol ink and added some clear Wink of Stella over the top.
After adding my cake to the front of a white notecard, I popped the purple pieces back in using a little glue and my Pick-Me-Up tool.
I added a sentiment from Avery Elle’s Big Greetings to the inside of the card.
I layered my “Jadeite” cake plate piece with foam tape onto the front of my card and added a sentiment strip from Avery Elle’s Simply Said You stamp set.
There are so many different color combinations you can use with this die. It makes creating birthday cards quick and easy! Thanks so much for joining me today.
