Make your own glittery embellishments to use in your crafting projects with this very simple project. These pretty drops are perfect for scrapbooking, card making, or just adding some sparkle to your various craft projects.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Sulyn Extra Fine Glitter 2 oz., various colors of your choice
- Beadalon Curved Tweezers – Designer
- Hot Glue Gun
- Glue sticks
- Small glass bowls
- A couple sheets of plain paper (To use to catch your glitter, and funnel it back into the container)
To begin, heat your glue gun until the glue is nice and hot, and flows out smoothly. Pour about 1/2″ of glitter into your bowl. Holding the tip of the glue gun a couple of inches over the surface of the glitter, begin gently squeezing a small puddle of glue onto the surface of the glitter. Hold the glue gun still for a few seconds after squeezing the glue puddle to let the inevitable little glue “cobweb” cool, and then pull the gun away to snap it–that way you don’t wind up with little glittery tails on your drops. Make a few drops onto the surface of the glitter before you move onto the next step.
Sprinkle some glitter from the container onto the top of the glue drops to cover them, and then gently shake the bowl to help fully cover the drops. Next, resist the temptation to immediately remove the glitter drops from the bowl, because they are still quite soft at this point–the glitter will insulate the drops, and keep them from cooling as quickly as hot glue usually does. Let them cool in the glitter for a minute or so, and then use the tweezers to carefully remove them from the glitter. Tap off the extra, and place on the paper to make sure they’re fully cool. I suggest working on several different colors of drops at once, rotating working on the different bowls to allow them time to cool enough in the glitter. Be sure to place each of the different colors of dots on different papers, if you want to funnel the excess glitter back into the container when you’re done with the project.
Use hot glue, or white glue to attach the drops to your various paper, and crafting projects! How could you use glitter dots in your crafting?
