Anytime I search for Halloween sweets and treats Monster eye cookies have been popping up left and right. I haven’t tried baking them yet but love the look of them so I had to try making some fake ones. I love how they turned out and plan on hanging them in my Halloween tree as ornaments. Make some for yourself to hang up, wear or, use as a magnet.
What you need:
- Polymer clay (I used Sculpey III in white, orange, blue, purple, pink, green)
- hobby blade
- heavy duty foil
- black acrylic craft paint
- paintbrush or Sculpey Clay Style and Detail Tools
Start by making some eyes. Roll out 2 different thicknesses of white clay canes. Cut even parts off of each of the small and large canes. Roll each cut section into a ball then slightly flatten it. Pre-bake the eyes at 265 for 5 minutes then set aside.
I used white clay and mixed with my color choices for a pastel look like the real cookies. Roll each color into similar sized balls and slightly flatten with your fingers into a cookie like shape.
Use a toothbrush to add texture by brushing and poking on the clay.
Crush up some heavy duty foil and press into the clay to add more texture.
Use a toothpick or needle to draw cracks in your cookie to add some detail.
Lay out your cookies and divide up all your eyes among them. Gently press your eyes into the surface of the cookies. Add an eye pin if you wish to hang or wear your cookie(s). Bake at 265 for 20 minutes.
After your work is cool paint black dots on all your eyes. I used a dotting tool to do this.
Now you have some monster eye cookies to enjoy year after year!
