Create some stylish, but simple to make luminarias with black and white travel photos.
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Clear cylindrical glass vases, jars, or candle cups.
- Darice Lights Bright LED Tea Light with Timer 100 Hours 4pc.
- Black and white travel photos.
- Printer and printer paper.
- X-Acto knife.
- Cutting mat.
To begin, bring your photos into a print program, convert to black and white, and print full page. I chose photos that featured buildings, to create a city-like scene. Wrap your first photo around a vase, lining the bottom of the photo up with the bottom of the vase. Mark the height of the glass onto the paper with your pencil. Cut the paper so it is the same height as the vase.
Use your X-Acto knife to cut out some details on your photo, so the lights will shine through. A good choice would be windows on buildings, but it’s really whatever you prefer.
For a different look, try cutting down the top of your photo along a skyline, the top of a building, or other elements.
Wrap your photo around the vase, and tape the seam on the back.
Insert a battery tea light into your luminary into the vase.
I used only building photos, but you could just as well use your favorite vacation photos.
These luminarias look great in a group, so try making a bunch, in different sizes.
