Make your favorite smiley face emoji into a fun throw pillow–no sewing required!
Here’s what you’ll need to make your own:
- Yellow polar fleece
- Red felt
- Black felt
- White felt
- Aleen’s Fabric Fusion Permanent Fabric Adhesive
- Fairfield Fiber Poly Fil
To begin, you need to figure out how big you want your pillow to be. I took the easy route, and used a large, circular tray to trace as my pattern. Anyway you do it, you need to fold the polar fleece in half, and trace a circle onto the fabric with a pencil.
Measure about 2-inches away from the edge of your drawn circle, and cut out evenly around with your scissors. You will now have 2 circles, one on top of the other.
Keeping your fabric circles sandwiched together, use your scissors to snip a fringe around the edge of the circle, through both circles, stopping at the pencil line. Make your snips about 1/2-inch apart.
Use your felt to cut a face for your favorite emoji.
Apply the fabric glue as closely to the edges of your felt pieces as possible, and then in even lines around the inside of the pieces.
Carefully apply the pieces to the front of your fleece circle, press adhere. Let dry.
Next, begin tying the edge of your pillow together by choosing a set of tabs that are across from each other (one from each circle of fabric), and then tying them together in a basic knot once, and then together again one more time. Move to the next set of tabs, and tie. Repeat until you are left with a 4-inch opening of untied tabs. The tied seam will want to pucker a bit, to fix this, gently pull the seam around the curve a bit to help pull the knots apart a bit, and shape the circle.
Use your Fiberfil to stuff the pillow to your desired firmness. Once stuffed, tie the remaining tabs closed to finish the pillow.
