Deck the Door Holiday Card

While you are decking the doors of your home out for the holidays be sure to deck out your holiday cards, too.  This beautiful white on white card makes the perfect holiday statement this season.  Add a little touch of color to make this door a really elegant and simple card design.

Trim a piece of white cardstock with a paper trimmer to create a 4” x 6” card base and lay it aside for later.

Trim another piece of the white cardstock to measure 3 ½” x 5 ½”.  Lay this aside.

Cut 4 panels that measure 1 ½” x 2 ½”.

Measure ¼” from each side and draw the rectangles.   This will be the guide for easy scoring in the next step.

Now place each of the panels on a scoring board with the rectangles that you drew in the last step facing up.  Score on each line starting at the corner of the rectangle and stopping at the point where the line stops.  Each of the lines should match up with the ¼” and the 2 1/8” marks on the board.  When you are finished you will have 4 panels that look like those shown in the picture above.  Lay the pieces aside.

Create a 1 ¾” diameter circle.  You can use either a 1 ¾” punch or a circle cutter and glass mat.  Line up a 1” circle punch in the center of the first circle and punch out the center to create a wreath shape.

Punch several branches using the branch punch.

Add glue to the width of the circle and start assembling the wreath.  Continue to punch and add branches until the circle is filled and it looks the way you like it.  Be sure to add more than 1 layer to the piece.  This wreath was made using 3 layers of branches.  Allow it to dry completely.

Add the panels to the door (the 3 ½” x 5 ½” piece created in step #2) using a tape runner.  Leave a small gap in between each one.

Punch a hole using a hole punch where the door handle would be and then add a brad through the hole.

Attach the door to the card base and then glue the wreath onto it.  Tie a piece of ribbon and attach it, too.  Punch the leaves and holly from red and green cardstock using the holly punch and glue it to the wreath.

Finish the inside of the card using your favorite sentiment stamp or sticker.

This season send some holiday cheer to your friends and family with this warm and welcoming card.  The clean and simple design makes a great statement to welcome the time of year.  Open your door and hearts with this very special card that’s just waiting to be shared.

About Peg

Peg Rounds lives in East Moline, Illinois with her husband and best friend, Kevin and their son Josh and 2 dogs. She was an elementary school teacher turned stay at home mom, and later a home school mom. Over the years, she designed cakes on the side and went to school to become a certified chocolatier. She always has loved to craft since she was young and it was something that she wanted to be doing, but set it aside due to her busy life. After 15 years of doing cakes she decided it was time to stop and focus more on her family. She began doing layouts, then cards and it went from there. Before she knew it, next to spending time with her family, she spent every free moment creating something and blogging about it. One thing led to another and here she is today! Check out Peg's blog, Peg's Crafting Corner to see what else she has been up to!
