It’s getting to be that time of year again. Even very young children can feel the hectic excitement in the air and anticipate the approaching change to their schedules. It can be a scary experience, especially for kids just starting school, but it can also be exciting and fun. As you’re navigating back to school shopping for school supplies and clothes you can also help your kids prepare for the new school year with crafts, activities and imaginative play!
If you haven’t made a time capsule with the family yet, the end of summer and start of a new school year is a great time to do so. Encourage the kids to choose trinkets from the summer, photos and notes about yourself (favorite colors, best friends, new friends, goals for the school year, favorite joke, etc.) These will be so much fun to open next year (or at the time that you choose).

Do you have a lot of your child’s artwork hanging up, piled in the crafts room and play room? Then this project is perfect for your family. You can have your kids choose a painting or drawing that they would like to turn into a cover for a notebook or journal, and then follow these neat instructions on how to bind your own books. (Babble dabble do is full of awesome ideas like this one!)

A great way to help the kids prepare for the new school year and get organized is to give them the chance to add a personal touch to their supplies. Hopefully these cheerful pencils will make math problems throughout the year a little more fun!
