DIY Ice Cream Cone Garland

Hello everyone! Today I’m going to show you how to make different types of fun garlands you can use to decorate your summer parties!

First, I will show you how to create a pom-pom garland.

SUPPLIES:

unnamed

Take your yarn and wrap it around a gift card or credit card lengthwise. I wrapped mine around 200 times. This number may vary depending on your yarn and how fluffy/dense you want your pom-pom to be.

Next, cut a piece of yarn and place the gift card on top.

Step3

Carefully remove the gift card, but make sure to keep the yarn bundled.

Step4

Using the piece of string, make a tight double-knot at the center.

Step5

There will be loops on each side of the bundle. Go around and cut all of the loops.

Step6

This is what your bundle will look like after you’ve cut all the loops. Fluff the ball with your hands.

Step7

Begin trimming the ball until it looks dense and uniformly round.

Step8

This is how your finished pom-pom should look.

Step9

To create a garland, simply thread your garland string through the center that is holding the pom-pom together. You can create a garland using different sizes and color pom-poms!

Now I will show you how to create a honeycomb ball garland.

SUPPLIES:

Supplies2

You will need 1 sheet of tissue paper, scissors, and a glue stick.

Step10

Take one full sheet of tissue paper and fold it in half, lengthwise and cut along the fold.

Step13

Fold it in half and cut again for a total of 4 times, until you end up with 16 small rectangular sheets.

Step14

Take a scrap piece of paper that is wider than the rectangle sheets. Make marks alternating every inch.

Step15

Place your first sheet of paper on top of your guide. Apply a line of glue from the top to the bottom where each BLUE guide mark is. Then place your second sheet on top. Next, apply lines of glue from top to bottom where the RED guide marks are. Keep repeating this, alternating the guide marks until you’ve glued all the sheets.

Step16

Once you have glued every sheet, fold the stack in half lengthwise and glue it together.

Step17

After you have glued the folded sheet together, it should look like this.

Step18

Now cut it into a half circle shape. Make sure that the folded part is uncut and the curve is cut on the open end.

Step19

Carefully open your half-circle. Apply glue to one half of the flat circle, and glue to the other half, so you create a ball.

Step20

And this is your honeycomb ball! You can string these honeycomb balls by threading your string through a small hole cut at the top of the ball. You can alter how the honeycomb looks by changing how many sheets you use and how far apart you place your guide marks.

Step21

Now you know how to create 2 types of garlands. Here is a fun way to create the perfect summertime ice cream cone garland.

Step22

Take a piece of paper in whatever color you want the cone to be. Roll the paper up into a cone shape from the corner and glue in place.

Step23

Cut a straight line to create your ice cream cone.

Step27

Apply some hot glue around the edge of the cone to attach the pom-pom or honeycomb ball. Now you have 2 ways to create a cute ice cream garland for your summertime parties and barbecues! I hope you’ve enjoyed today’s tutorial!
