Time to Celebrate the Guy in Your Life

Give dad a tie this Father’s Day or the man in your life one for another occasion be it his birthday or something else.  This fun card will be welcomed by any man that you want to send a special message in honor of his day.  They are easy to create using the template this is included with this tutorial so create one anytime you’d like to send a greeting to on his special day.

Begin by printing out the Tie Template.  You can even resize it to use it on a regular card base if you don’t want a standalone card or want one that is smaller.

1

Fold a sheet of 12” x 12” cardstock (white and kraft used for these) in half using a scoring board so that you have a good fold.  This is important because this is where the wear and tear on the card will be when it is opened and closed.

2

Cut the template out and lay it on the fold of paper.  Make sure that part of the straight edge of the tie is snuggly against the fold of the cardstock.   The left side of the knot (as you are looking at it in the picture) should also slightly overlap the fold.

3

Trace around the template and then cut it out using a pair of scissors. Remember to not cut the areas that were not traced onto the fold.

Now you can begin to decorate and personalize the card(s).

4

Punch the letters for your message and sentiment from cardstock using the Martha Stewart Alphabet Punch Set or use alphabet stamps or even stickers for it.  Adhere them using a glue pen or a Xyron sticker maker.

5

Create a pattern using your favorite Washi Tape choices by running 2 strips in one direction and 2 more in the other alternating as you go.  Trim the edges off close to the card.

6

Choose your favorite dies (Hexagon Die Set by Spellbinders shown) and cut them from your favorite patterned paper (Black & Kraft Prints by Canvas Corp. shown)using your die cut machine.  Arrange it on the tie and adhere it with a tape runner.

7

Finish off the tie by running a line of glue from the pen across the narrowed section at the end of the knot.  Add a piece of Baker’s Twine onto the glue line and trim it close to the base.

Now you have a special card to share with a special dad.  They, also, make great cards for other occasions such as a graduation or even a birthday!  Whenever you need a card for a special guy this card is an easy one to make that will bring a smile to him.

About Peg

Peg Rounds lives in East Moline, Illinois with her husband and best friend, Kevin and their son Josh and 2 dogs. She was an elementary school teacher turned stay at home mom, and later a home school mom. Over the years, she designed cakes on the side and went to school to become a certified chocolatier. She always has loved to craft since she was young and it was something that she wanted to be doing, but set it aside due to her busy life. After 15 years of doing cakes she decided it was time to stop and focus more on her family. She began doing layouts, then cards and it went from there. Before she knew it, next to spending time with her family, she spent every free moment creating something and blogging about it. One thing led to another and here she is today!
