Summer is coming and all the yard/tag sales will be in full swing. Keep an eye out for some vintage vinyl records. There are millions of them out there just waiting to be transformed into something useful, since the days of the record player have passed. We made a vase with ours, but they can also be used as baskets to collect keys or junk. Use them on your bed side table for your jewelry and watch. They are a great gift for retro Moms and Dads!
- Vinyl Record
- Oven proof glass or pan or can
- Pot holder
- Plastic 2 liter soda bottle
Start by preheating your oven to 200 degrees. Next, lay the record over the glass. Close the door and let the record slowly melt over the glass creating a vase or bowl shape. Open windows and use oven vent fans, there are fumes involved in this process.
It took mine 5 minutes to melt into place. Use pot holders to remove the record and let it cool.
While the record is cooling cut the bottom off of the clear plastic soda bottle. Rinse it well. Insert the plastic bottle bottom into the newly formed record vase. I used a clear plastic bottle so it would not be noticeable in the record bowl. It also has a solid bottom for holding water.
Plant the flower or house plant in the new vase. Gently water it and set it out for everyone to see.
Remember: Vinyl is NOT food safe. These bowls should NEVER be used for food!!!
