Growth rulers are simple to make and the best part of it all is that you can pick up and take your ruler with you if you move!
For this project, I picked up a piece of wood. The actual size doesn’t matter so much but you’ll probably want a piece that’s at least five feet long or so (you can mount your ruler on the wall which gives you about an extra foot for a total of six feet or so).
I started by giving my wood a light sanding to even out the texture. I painted the sides a nice white bright so it will blend in nicely with our white walls. Then I taped some paper together and measured out my marks with an actual ruler.
I highly suggest this step so you can double check your marks before permanently committing to them on your wood. Next, I used a permanent marker to make my lines. The numbers I just free handed.
I drilled two holes in the wood to adhere it to a wall in the future. For now, since we’re still in the process of moving into our new home, I just leaned the ruler against a wall. Make sure when you do hang your ruler that you measure from the floor to the bottom of your ruler (mine needs to be hung about eight inches off the floor) to get accurate measurements.
