A fun snow day project, these crystal hearts can be made over night with simple supplies. Get ready for Valentine’s Day by making these for everyone you love. Grow a little sparkle!
Start by cutting the pipe cleaner into 2 pieces. Take one piece and fold it in half, this make the point of the heart. Then form the round part of the top of the heart and twist the ends together to complete the shape.
Tie one end of a piece of string around the center of the pipe cleaner heart. Place a pencil across the top of the glass jar. Hang the heart into the jar. Cut the string with enough length so that when tied to the pencil the heart hangs close to the bottom but does not touch it. Tie the string to the center of the pencil.
Set the pencil, string and pipe cleaner set-up aside.
Bring water to a boil. Carefully pour 2 cups of boiling water into the heat proof jar or container. Add 1/3 cup borax to the jar and stir until the Borax is dissolved.
Lower the heart gently back into the jar, resting the pencil across the mouth of the jar.
Place the jar in a safe place overnight. In the morning there will be real home grown crystals on the heart!
Gently dry off the heart.
Use the hearts as window hangers or gifts for Valentine’s Day.
