It almost seems too simple to actually be a thing, but the color block is, indeed a thing and a thing that is everywhere. Bringing in large sections of bold, often contrasting colors is a great way to spice up and outfit, a room or a wide range of craft projects. It’s simple to execute and makes a big impact on the overall look of everything from sewing projects to painting your walls to jewelry and small crafts.

Bed Runner

I’m loving this bed runner, just the right amount of color impact to set off the neutral bedding in the background. Similarly, this blanket uses a busy pattern contrasted with bright solids for a totally different but equally striking.

Color Blocked Jeans

Also on the sewing front is this uber cute patch in a pair of ripped jeans. I love the burst of color against the denim! That’s going in my for the kids Pinboard as well as my craft trends board because it’s a double keeper (and I have a whole pile of little boy ripped jeans sitting on my sewing table waiting for SOMETHING to be done with them!)


And then there are these awesome painted terra cotta pots. So simple! Such a great look! I love them. In fact, I think I’m going to go pick up a pile of pots this weekend and make a mess of them for my dining room table to add a little color to the space! Think of all those paints, so many colors, sitting in your craft cupboard right now, just waiting to be used in a bright color block project! (no? You don’t have bottles and bottles of paint? Well, we can help you with that!)
