I love chalkboard paint. There are so many great things you can do with it. Chalkboard paint has been one of my favorite craft trends because you can turn just about anything into a chalkboard. Chalkboard Placemats are one of the more entertaining and easy projects you can do. These placemats are a great way to say I love you or help your little ones with their homework. These Chalkboard Placemats are a cute idea for dinner parties, wedding, and events. I hope you like them and give the project a try…Happy Crafting Everyone!

Craft Supplies needed:

  1. Chalkboard Paint
  2. Spray Primer
  3. Placemats
  4. Mini roller kit
  5. Chalk

Step one:

Prime your placemats. Let dry for 20 minutes.

Step Two:

While primer is drying, stir the chalkboard paint. Very important step! You want to make sure you mix thoroughly.

Step Three:

Pour a small amount of paint into your mini roller tray.

Step Four:

After the primer is dry, roll on your first coat of paint making sure to cover the entire mat. I only painted one side of the mat.

Step Five:

Wash out your roller and wait 4 hours before applying the second coat.

Step Six:

Apply second coat. After second coat is dry wait for 3 days (Yup, three whole days) before writing on your new chalkboard placemat.

Hope you enjoyed! If you want to make your own chalkboard paint, check out my recipe here.

What kind of placemats do you buy for this? Do they have to be wood or board for this to work?
    Thanks.

Hi Mary, I used the regular wipeable Decofoam placemats. I got them for $1 at big lots. Hope that helps!
