The Black Magic Technique has been around in the stamping world for a while and it is one of my all time favorite techniques. It can make any card into an eye popping one just by the use of white ink and black paper and it can be used with any of your favorite stamps. Be sure to check out the great stamps from CreateForLess. You’ll be sure to find one or more that you will want to use for this.
On a 4 ¼” wide by 3 ½ long piece of black cardstock, stamp the image (Garden Life Stamp) in white ink with the stamp on an acrylic stamp block.
Allow image to dry completely before moving onto the next step. You can, also, use a heat tool to help it dry faster, but be careful not to burn the paper.
Using your favorite colored pencils, color parts of the image. Be sure to leave some areas especially large ones uncolored to show the black magic affect and make the image stand out. I like to color some smaller areas, such as the leaves along the fence, when there is a lot of white to break it up some. Other areas, such as the flowers, I decided to only add color to the inside so that the flower stood out more.
Along the edges to give the image a finished look, I drew 8 lines that measured ¼” in length using the blue colored pencil. You can free hand these lines or use a ruler to measure them. Either way is okay. Add some small white dots with the white colored pencil to each end of every line.
Place the white pencil on one of the dots and allow the waxiness of the pencil leads to guide you in a straight line along the edge of the blue to the next dot and up and around to the other edge of the blue line to close the outline as shown in the above picture.
Create a card base from blue cardstock that measures 8″ x 6″ and fold in half. Adhere a piece of patterned paper (Best of Brenda Walton) that measures 3 ¾” x 5 ½” to the front of the card base. Attach the finished image to the card base to complete the card.
Give this card for any occasion or just as a simple “thinking of you” by adding your own sentiment to the inside. Create a bunch of images and store them for a quick card. Use any fun stamp that catches your eye to make this. The fun and possibilities are endless with the Black Magic Technique!
