Musical Crafts

Thanks to the popular show Calliou, my kids wanted to make instruments and have their very own marching band. So, this is what we came up with. We each had an instrument to play in less than 30 minutes and we got to be really creative at the same time. Every instrument is fully functional and actually produced a musical note. The Straw Oboe has got to be my favorite!

What you will need:
- 2 paper plates
- Parchment paper or Wax paper
- Straws
- Paper towel roll
- Scissors
- Tape
- Rubber Band
- Markers or Crayons
- Ink Pen
- Uncooked Noodles

Tambourine Directions:
Tape two plates half way together. Add 1/2 a cup of dried noodles. Continue taping the plate until all the edges are sealed. Decorate!
Straw Oboe Directions:
Flatten about 1 inch of the straw. Cut the corners off. Cut the straw to desired length. I recommend making several varieties of length. Each length will create a different sound.
Paper Towel Flute:
Cover one end of the paper towel roll with wax or parchment paper. Use a rubber band to secure it. Using the tip of an ink pen poke holes in the top of the roll. Make sure they are about 1 inch apart. Decorate!
