Parents Magazine shared some fantastic ideas for kid’s birthday parties. It makes me want to go back in time to my 7th birthday party. As much as I loved my Dairy Queen themed birthday party, I think the Woodland Fairy Tale Birthday Party or the Japanese Tea Party Birthday are more my style.
The inspiration for the Woodland Fairy Tale Party came from nature, and brings has the magic of fairies and other woodland creatures to life. They include ideas for party favors, decorations, treats and décor. My favorite is the photo below of the Forest Floor Décor, also known as a cupcake holder.
They used Walnut Hollow Basswood rounds in varying sizes for each cupcake level. Then covered empty cans in wood grain paper to make the steps. Then accent with twigs, sticks, leaves or accent birds.
In my opinion, no party is complete unless there are costumes. This link has instructions on how to make this flower headband and feathered hat. It’s a fun and quick project that could be during with the kid’s during the party, or make some beforehand for dressing up.

My first impression of the cupcake stand was, “Wow, that’s really cute!!!” My second impression was, “Those cupcakes are a really nice imitation of the fly agaric toadstool…” Alas, even though they are considered the quintessential wild mushroom/toadstool – colorful and easily identified – they’re also poisonous. Thus, I worry that people, especially children, might associate these yummy cupcakes with the poisonous toadstools. If you make these for children, I suggest you set aside time for a lesson about not eating what you find in nature without a knowledgeable adult’s guidance. Make sure they know this is pretend. Otherwise, a really cute presentation.
