My crafting hero(ine) is Amy Fuehrer, until recently the owner of Yellow Bird Art, a quilt shop that she had to close. I bought my daughter a needle felting kit for next to nothing at Amy’s shop closing sale, and this week Amy came over to our house and spent a few hours with my little one, teaching her needle felting.

Tim Holtz is, hands down, my crafting hero. I love his grunge look for all my boy/men layouts (have no girls, except me in my family). I have all of his inks and love his new line of papers!

my crafting hero is my mother! mama never met a craft supply or a craft project she wasn’t up to. since i was a little child i’ve watched my mother sew clothes, upholster furniture, make lamps (literally MAKE them from scratch with pottery clay and paint and then wire them herself). she’s now in her 70′s and just last summer she built a patio in her yard! if i were half the crafter she is, i’d be awesome. :)

My crafting hero is my mother. She is the most creative and crafty person I have ever met. When we were little, she was a stay-at-home mom who earned extra money by sewing clothes for people. She encouraged her childrens creativity by coming up with various craft projects and we loved it! To this day, she is involved with a bunch of craft groups, ranging from needlepoint, porcelain doll making (for which she has won numerous prizes), scrapbooking and other projects. She has taught me the joy and satisfaction of creating with your hands.

My crafting hero is my mother. When I was a child we were very poor. So poor that my mother put us in a children’s home so we could survive. Before we went to the home she had enough fabric to make me two dresses to wear to school for my first grade. After we went to the home she made dresses for a fabric store where she worked and when the dresses were changed out she mailed them to my sisters and I to wear. She always wore dresses she had sewed when she visited us too. I remember my grandmother making a quilt out of those fabrics and I could remember and feel my mother’s presence when I used that quilt. Crafting is not just about having fun. It is also good for surviving.

First person that popped into my head as my “crafting hero,” is my mother. She grew up poor and what we consider to be “recycling” was necessity for her. Raising six girls on a small income, we always had everything we needed and often what we wanted, besides because mom was so great at making over, creating from nothing and just making the best of what she had to hand. I learned so much of what I know about “crafting” from her.

My mom is my crafting hero. Since I can remember my mom was always making some thing. Macrame was her big thing in the 70′s, she once made this owl about three feet tall that I wish I had now. Any time we went to the flea market to check out what the crafter were selling she always turn to one of us and say I can make that. I have told my daughter about mom’s famous saying and now she laughs because I often turn to her and say “I can make that”. Now because of my mom I can make it. She taught us how to paint, sew, mold plastic and a few other crafts. My mom was also very good at poetry, I didn’t get that trait but one of my sisters did.

My mom and her best friend. I started learning crafts from them at camp when I was little. I love that they can look at something in a store go, “we can make that” and then they do. I wish I had some of their creativity!

My crafting hero is my mom–she inspired me from an early age to start creating. There wasn’t anything, she couldn’t figure out how to make….and she passed that passion on to me!

My crafting hero also changes depending on what I’m working on, but most recently I have been focused on handmade cards with rubber stamping, ribbon, pretty papers, punches, and more. A college-mate of mine, Stacey, is the first one I can thank for introducing me to rubber stamping and embossing. Most recently, I have enjoyed seeing the pieces and inspirations (not to mention budding businesses) of Joy, Robyn, Karlee, and Joy (another) — and I would have to say that they are my Crafting Heroines!

My Grandmother. Born and raised in the Great Depression, this woman is more creative than anyone I know – she knits, she crochets, she paints, and she even quilts from old clothes and fabrics. To say the least, in her 80 years of life,my grandmother has inspired her 3 sons (one of which is my dad) into learning to sew and quilt; encouraged all of her 5 granddaughters to learn at least one of the many crafts she does; and has now started on her 3 great grandchildren.

Most amazingly, my grandmother was the one who noticed that I couldn’t sit still in church and was wise enough to put a crochet hook in my hands and get me to see what I could create on my own. From there, I learned to crochet, then draw, paint, and craft. To this day, as a family (even the men) we’re constantly talking about our handcrafts and how we can improve on them. Every year, we trade names and look forward to handmade gifts from one another. They’re cherished above all others. She is an amazing woman, and I’m proud to call her my grandma!

My craft hero is my mom and my best friend. My mom taught me how to crochet when I was younger and it sparked a lifetime love of the craft and my best friends opened me up to scrapbooking and card making.
