I'd taken a class with Maureen Stapleton and had finished my first one-over-one cross stitch project. To do it I had to use my strongest reading glasses plus a magnifier; the overhead light plus two craft lights.
We had company coming so I bagged up the project, including the pattern & floss, as well as some other craft materials...in a large black bag. You see this coming....
My husband, being helpful, gathered up all the garbage, including that bag and threw it away...away as in to the garbage & picked up.
He felt awful. I felt awful. Fortunately when I told Maureen what happened and could I have/buy a new pattern she graciously gave me the pattern, and the kit. Lessons learned-craft people are the best! And never, never, never put a project in a bag without a label, in a box, in the closet.

Once when I was making a jacket for my cat, I realized I made the front inside out. Since it was done and I didn't feel like ripping out the stitches, I decided it was cool like that and left it at that. It actually does look kind of cool.

Out of curiosity--does it have to be my own? I have one that my mom gave me as a gift that is pretty funny, though she still doesn't realize the problem...
